As an assessment social worker, you are responsible for supporting families from the start of their journey into Children’s Services. You will complete initial Child and Family assessments, identifying risk and need and making recommendations for ongoing support from a longer-term team or a short-term intervention within our team. This provides social workers the opportunity to put support in place, make positive changes and to empower families to achieve their
goals. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is committed to working with the children and young people of York to make sustainable changes and improve outcomes for children.

Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate that they have excellent written and oral communication skills. The ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload is a must, along with the ability to plan and prepare assessments that are clear, analytical, and coherent. The positions are hybrid roles with a blend of working from Council offices as well as remotely. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated office council office for your team.

As the role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR Level 1: Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
Relocation expenses, in accordance with the City of York Council’s Relocation Policy, may be available for the successful candidate subject to meeting the relevant criteria.
