City of York Council is dedicated to a Model of Practice where we are Building Brighter Futures for the children of York and this uses a range of systemic and strength based practice tools including Signs of Safety and Family Finding. We are looking for an individual who can help lead their team and support us to continue on our development journey.

 

As a Service Manager leading the exploitation team, you will have overall responsibility for the team, possess exceptional leadership skills as your tasks include staff supervision both from case management perspective and personal supervision. This role requires someone who is passionate about supporting children vulnerable to or experiencing exploitation and working closely with families and multi-agency partners on contextual safeguarding concerns.  This is a unique role balancing day to day line management of staff and the children who are allocated to your team, leading meetings and decision making for children across the city, whilst influencing local policy and strategy with multi agency partners to ensure children receive the best service.

 

The exploitation team has been specifically set up for workers to carry a smaller allocated caseload of children, enabling intensive work with our children and families. The team consists of social workers, trusted relationship coordinator and family help support workers who provide holistic and targeted support to children and their families. The exploitation team play a vital role in supporting the rest of the service in recognising and responding to exploitation, missing and contextual safeguarding concerns through training and ad hoc support.

This role will require you to be suitably qualified (DIPSW/CQSW/Masters/Degree in Social work) and preferably have supervisory or management experience as well as being able to evidence skills and knowledge in line with the job specification. We will also expect a passion for working with children and achieving the best outcomes and achieve stability and permanence whilst promoting life long links with their family.

 

This role is suitable as a job sharing position. 

 

Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.

 

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
