Handyperson No Wrong Door

Location: Dovedale Children's Home

Salary: From £22,737 up to £23,893 per annum pro rata  

Hours: Part time hours available (Ideally working Monday, Wednesday and Friday)

Contract: Permanent

Closing date: 4th February 2024

 

The No Wrong Door Service provides support to North Yorkshire's most vulnerable young people who experience complex and challenging needs. The post holder will be part of the No Wrong Door team and support them will all aspects of maintenance properties and grounds within a hub area.

 

You will have individual responsibility in accordance with the practices and procedures of the Local Authority for the timely, routine maintenance and repairs to a good and safe standard. To recognise and understand the importance of Health and Safety and fire protection equipment and records (e.g. Electric check, fire alarms, emergency lighting, automatic fire detection, fire doors etc.)

 

You will perform general maintenance of the grounds, buildings and fixtures and fittings to ensure clear safe access to the property at all times. Including general handy person work within the building i.e. decorating, moving furniture, cleaning drains, replacing light bulbs, basic plumbing and joinery etc. 

 

This will include performing general gardening tasks and repairs. You should have experience overseeing compliance work with external contractors and to liaise with and monitor maintenance contractors while they are working on site and ensure paperwork is completed and any required actions carried out.

 

You will need a strong team work ethic and be able to work in partnership with the General Assistant and care workers as required to support the running of the hub while being sensitive to the needs of the individual children who may be living there, taking account of race, culture language and religion.

 

The role will require you to be able to support the work of the care staff and will occasionally involve providing and efficient transport service e.g. dropping colleagues/young people at appointments as required using the pool car. You will maintain the Hub's 2 pool cars on a weekly basis including washing, vacuuming, fuel, tyre pressure, fluid checks and to oversee annual servicing and any maintenance/body shop repairs.  

 

The Key characteristic requirements of this post are experience in the maintenance of buildings and resources, commitment, flexibility and some understanding of the needs of young people who have complex challenging behaviour. We therefore require an “out the box” thinker, whilst conducting your role it will be essential you have a good grasp on health and safety along with an awareness to spot safeguarding concerns when performing work in the residence, escalating concerns to members of the team if identified.

 

The post is part time and requires an Enhanced Level DBS Disclosure
