This is an exciting time to join the Fostering Service – the SGO Support Worker role has been created to support the service in ensuring that all Special Guardianship Families have access to responsive, specialised support that enables them to thrive within their communities.
This role sits within the Connected Carer and Special Guardianship Support Pod and the post holder will have access to a supportive and positive team who have a shared understanding of the needs of Connected and Special Guardianship Households.
The SGO Support Worker will be responsible for working with Special Guardianship Families to achieve outcomes within planned pieces of work and leading on support as part of the Team Around the Child where there is a need for targeted family support.
In addition to working 1:1 with families, you will work with the wider network and also support Special Guardianship families to come together through support groups, training and networking events.
You will be passionate in breaking down barriers for families to access support and be someone who can think outside the box to achieve best outcomes.
You will need to be a self-motivated individual with excellent communication and organisational skills and will be someone who can take responsibility for the development of specific areas of the Special Guardianship Support Offer.
The ability to work autonomously both in a 1:1 and group setting with families would be a great asset.
You will need to understand the impact of early trauma and issues affecting children and young people who are unable to live with their birth parents and an ability to work empathetically and creatively with Special Guardianship families to ensure they continue to receive the most appropriate support to meet their needs.
The benefits of working for Calderdale Children’s Social Care are that you will be supported to provide the very best service for our children.
You will manage your own diary and benefit from being able to work from home as well as having access to an office base to enable you to meet with colleagues and other teams and services.
Quality reflective supervision is provided and there is a strong learning culture within the service as well as a great sense of belonging and peer involvement.
You will be given a comprehensive induction program and provided with regular person focused supervision to meet your well-being, training, and development needs.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment.
Applicants to posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.
