Role:  Area Senior Educational Psychologist
Grade: Soulbury (B) 3-6
Salary:  up to £55,921 (pay award pending) plus access to up to 3 SPA points (recruitment and retention incentives (plus relocation package)
Contract: Full-time / permanent (will consider job share)
Location: Across North Yorkshire. The service very much promotes flexible working with the ability to work remotely from a range of bases across North Yorkshire, as well as working from home. We provide exceptional technology, providing all the equipment to support home based working to ensure efficiency, and effective service delivery.

North Yorkshire Educational Psychology Service

This is an exciting time within North Yorkshire Council Educational Psychology service - we are embarking on an episode of considerable change. In April 2023, we moved to a single new council for North Yorkshire to replace the current two-tier structure of local government. Presently, within the Council we are a small EP team, however we are expanding, and we would like innovative, and solution-orientated psychologists to join us. You will have the opportunity to support in shaping the direction of the educational psychology service into the future.

 

We want to develop an educational psychology service that will be high performing, customer focused, committed to inclusive and person-centred practices. North Yorkshire Local Educational Authority are now looking for a committed, enthusiastic, and experienced Specialist Senior Educational Psychologist to join the Inclusion Team and work directly with NYC Virtual School as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The Virtual school works with colleagues to support the education and wellbeing of looked after young people, those young people who are in care - previously looked after children, PLAC, Children in Need, CIN and young people who have a Child Protection, CP plan. The post holder will be committed to the use of inclusive, evidenced-based applications of psychological approaches that promote positive outcomes for young people and reduce barriers to learning. The post holder will have a detailed understanding of the needs of young people who have experienced aspects linked to relational attachment or developmental trauma. They will be committed to the use of relational based approaches to supporting children such as Emotion Coaching, Trauma-informed, solution orientated.

This Specialist Senior role involves 0.5fte working within the central EP team and 0.5fte working with the Virtual School. Collaborating with the Virtual School and nationally recognised ARC will be a vital part of the role.

 

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work at different levels, working systemically with families and settings, being involved with training, engaging with groups and individuals to drive forward the authority Attachment Aware Trauma Informed schools project. This will include development of current networks to support ongoing development and sharing of best practice.

The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills and will be practised in devising, developing, and delivering training material / coaching and psychological approaches linked to the latest research in the area of trauma responsive practice. They will also be a reflective practitioner familiar with action research and have the ability to carry out research for the Virtual School in accordance with their strategic objectives.

In addition, the role will involve regular psychological case situation supervision to the Virtual School staff, developing and delivering training for the Virtual School staff, multi-agency consultation work for schools and complex problem-solving approaches such as Circle of Adults. This post may involve a limited amount of selected statutory work or oversight of statutory work for the Virtual School head teacher. The role will involve close working with partners such as social work teams, Psychologically Informed Partnership Approach, PIPA psychologists and some joint working / training to support foster carers. Offering support as required by the Virtual Schools head teacher is an integral part of this role.

 

There is opportunity to connect with the Inclusion team, Educational Psychology team, SEMH strategic group and contribute to regional and National conferences as required by the Virtual Schools head teacher. Psychological supervision will be available for the post holder from the Educational Psychology service.

Applications are welcomed from experienced candidates who have a masters or doctorate level qualification in Educational Psychology and are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, HCPC. You should be creative and forward thinking with the knowledge, skills, enthusiasm, and willingness to use psychological frameworks to facilitate positive change.
