We're looking to recruit highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed professional social workers to work within our Disabled Childrens Team.

We are deeply committed to achieving the very best outcomes for vulnerable children and young people in Barnsley. Children and their families are at the centre of all that we do, and our practice is underpinned by a strength based and relational model. This means supporting our social workers to develop relationships and to really know and understand children; to have the support to produce excellent assessment and analytical skills; apply evidence-based interventions and direct work. To develop the confidence and skills to make timely decisions and plans for children that will achieve positive and sustainable outcomes for their future.

We are an Ofsted rated ‘Good’ authority and remain highly aspirational to deliver even better services and outcomes for children, young people, and their families in the borough.

  •  A highly competitive social work salary up to £44,539 for experienced practitioners and we also offer a welcome payment for new employees

  • High quality regular supervision and support and a nurturing management team that encourages learning and development

  • Flexible working

  • A commitment to continuous professional development with a strong training and development offer for staff at all levels

  • An ASYE programme designed to support newly qualified practitioners to have additional support through their first year in practice

  • Relocation package

  • Good IT support and equipment

  • A commitment to health and wellbeing and access to dedicated assistance programme

How do we sum up Barnsley Council?

Well, we’re a double award-winning, high-performing council with a growing economy, a thriving town centre and some truly impressive outcomes in our communities. This is why we’ve been awarded Council of the Year for 2023 by the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) and The Municipal Journal (MJ).

Our excellent Children's Services has been a key part of our win; we’re so proud of what we’ve achieved not just for the council but for our partners and Barnsley.

We’re impressed. Are you? It’s the perfect time to join our excellent team.

What do we want from you?

Children in Barnsley deserve the best service we can give them and our children who have additional needs because of disabilities are one of our most vulnerable groups of children.

We want you to be passionate, committed and enthusiastic about making a difference for children. We need you to be resilient, compassionate, hardworking, and flexible to the needs of the children you will be working with.

We want you to be aspirational for what our children can achieve and be an advocate for them.
