An excellent opportunity has arisen in the Adoption Team based in Barnsley. Barnsley is now part of the One Adoption South Yorkshire regional adoption agency, making this an exciting time to come and work in adoption services.
The Adoption Development Worker’s key role will be to support and maintain the Letterbox scheme; involving indirect contact between adoptive parents and birth family. Letterbox is maintained for our adopted children until the adopted child reaches the age of 21 years and can be extended further until 25 years of age. Although this post remains with Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council terms and conditions, the post holder will be part of the Regional Adoption Agency – One Adoption South Yorkshire and will work closely with the neighbouring Authorities within OASY.
The role will include providing advice and support related to the letterbox service, for birth parents and adoptive parents. Support and advice will also be provided to social work professionals in the Council as well as partner adoption agencies.
In addition to this, the post holder will work closely with the social workers in the Adoption Service. This will include supporting with administrative tasks, and any group work or events which may be planned across the adoption service.
The post holder will maintain a high standard of case file management to ensure that records and systems are maintained in line with departmental requirements. The work demands a diligent approach in order that the adoptive family details remain confidential.
