Job description

1 x Children & Young Peoples Team

1 x Children in Care Team

This is an exciting time to join Barnsley Children’s Service as we’re a council that prioritises Children’s Services, and we want every child in the borough to achieve their full potential, to be safe and happy. We have had significant investment in the workforce, with the creation of additional social work posts to drive and support best outcomes for children and their families.

To further support our workforce, we have increased the management support to Social Workers, creating small and supportive teams where best practice is supported to flourish. As such, we are now looking to recruit a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and committed Team Manager to join our stable workforce. Could that be you?

We have a vacancy in our Children and Young Peoples Team and Children in Care Team.

Children and their families are at the centre of all that we do, and our practice is underpinned by a strength based and relational model. Your role as manager is key in supporting our social workers to develop relationships and to really know and understand children; to have the support to under take analytical assessment and apply evidence-based interventions and direct work, focussing on progressing care  plans for our children and young people.

You will be responsible for a small team of social workers, offering regular reflective supervision and driving  timely decisions and plans for children that will achieve positive and sustainable outcomes for their future.

We are an Ofsted rated ‘Good’ authority, and are highly aspirational in delivering the best  services and outcomes for children, young people, and their families in the borough.

We are looking for someone with;

·       A recognised social work qualification

·       Significant experience of working with children and their families and of driving planning and outcomes, with a creative approach to intervention

·       A sound working knowledge of the policies, legislation and procedures that underpin social work practice, with knowledge of children in care processes and experience of working in this area.

·       Significant experience of supervising social workers, and of supporting and mentoring

·       Experience of working within performance frameworks

·       Experience of working in partnership to improve outcomes for children

Why it’s great to work in Barnsley:

  • A highly competitive social work salary up to £51515 for experienced managers

  • High quality regular supervision and support and a nurturing management team that encourages learning and development

  • Flexible working

  • A commitment to continuous professional development with a strong training and development offer for staff at all levels

  • Good IT support and equipment

  • A commitment to health and wellbeing and access to dedicated assistance programme
