Job description

Calderdale Council Multi Agency Screening Team (MAST) operates borough wide and is the first contact point for all new referrals regarding children and young people. The service comprises a multi-agency team of social care staff, early intervention, police, health. We are looking at expanding the agencies at the Front Door and have developed a new opportunity for an Education Co-Ordinator within the team.

One of these priorities is children and young people and we want them to have a fair start in life. As part of this, we are continuing to develop our Front Door, and work with our partner agencies to promote Early Help and share prevention and systemic practice principles. As Education Co-Ordinator, you will be required to work closely with schools to support children and families who may be in need of support at the earliest opportunity.

You will support the information gathering and decision making processes in MAST for children's services. You will also act as link between the MAST and Education based settings, to promote appropriate referrals from schools/education settings and appropriate responses from MAST. This will include providing a high quality consultation and advice service for schools, and provide support where required, in determining Levels of Need and enabling families to get the right help at the right time.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about improving lives for children and young people and in ensuring that support is offered at the earliest possible opportunity. As the Specialist Education practitioner you will be a confident and ambitious worker, contributing to our journey on Systemic practice.

This is a new role and so we are looking for someone can adopt an innovative approach, with the skills to report regularly to senior managers regarding its impact. You will have a sound knowledge of legislation relevant to the posts and demonstrable insight into the issues facing children, young people and families. With strong communication and assessment skills, you will have the ability to develop effective working relationships with families and colleagues from various agencies.

Applicants to posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.
