37 hours per week, Permanent

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

 

Rotherham is a child-centred borough. We provide OFSTED graded ‘Good’ services to children and their families in borough. Our journey however does not stop here. In order to support our Social Workers, achieve our goal of providing outstanding services, we have created an opportunity for 9 Family Support Workers to join one of our 9 locality Social Work teams.

The candidates we are looking for will have passion for working with children and their families. You will come with bucket loads of enthusiasm and ambition to support and drive forward desired outcomes for children in borough. It will be important to be a good team player and where required, to work flexibly.

The FSW position will be aligned to each locality team and will be non-case holding however, you will have lots of opportunities for direct contact with children and their families. The job role includes:

 

  • Supporting social workers in their day to day tasks. Leading on non-statutory tasks for the children held within the team.

 

  • Building on relationships with partners in the team’s locality area, to include schools, local services, charity organisations

 

  • Supporting team learning.

 

  • Developing the confidence, skills, ability and knowledge of parents and other carers as individuals and in groups.

 

  • Where appropriate, to support social workers to keep up to date with record keeping.

 

·       Completing visits outside of statutory social work visits to support progression of the child’s plan. For example, testing safety plans are working or to complete bespoke pieces of work with the child or their family as agreed with the allocated social worker.

 

·       To employ effective skills and coordination to ensure that vulnerable children and families have their needs met and that non-delivery by agencies is challenged and/or escalated to senior colleagues appropriately.  

 

 

Your professional development is important to us. If you are successful in being appointed to role, within your first months of employment we will complete a Professional Development Review together (which takes place annually) and explore your training and learning needs, alongside future career opportunities. Here in Rotherham, we have close links with our local universities, alongside opportunities for apprenticeships.

If you are interested and have experience of working with children and their families, this could be the ideal role for you. Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK, have experience of working with children and young people and a current DBS.
